Billiard, also known as pool or pinball, is one of the ball sports. It is a sport and leisure activity in which the player uses a cue stick of more than 91.4 centimeters in length on a billiard table to hit the main ball according to certain rules and hit the target ball to make it go into the pocket.
Basic Billiards Techniques
The basic techniques of billiards are the high stick, the draw, the deflected shot, the jump shot, etc. There are many other techniques that have evolved from these basic techniques, such as the brake shot, the jump shot, the deflected shot, the high stick with added spin, and the curved shot (banana ball).
Introduction to Billiard Cueing
High Stick: As the name implies, it is a shot above the midpoint of the cue ball so that the cue ball continues to move forward after hitting the target ball.
Shrinking shot: also called pull shot or low shot, is to hit the mother ball below the midpoint, so that the mother ball moves backward after contacting the target ball, it should be noted that the force of hitting the ball is downward, not horizontal.
Offsides: It is plus side, hitting the left or right side of the mother ball, making the mother ball rotate itself as it moves forward, so that the mother ball changes its course of movement after hitting the case side or other balls. Spinning ball before hitting the target ball will have a certain change of line, the change of line due to the strength, the size of the rotation of the different, although there is a formula to calculate the arc of the change of line, but want to hit the ball still need to exercise the sense of the ball.
Jump ball: Using a short stick (jumping stick) to hit the ball from underneath the mother ball, so that the mother ball will have a jumping effect to avoid obstacles.
Brake Ball: This is to hit the ball below the center point of the mother ball, so that the mother ball will rotate backward for a certain distance and then roll forward, and then hit the target ball to produce a brake (fixed ball) effect.
Deflection: Like the addition of a spinning high stick, the use of spin to change the path of the mother ball’s movement, on top of the reduction or high stick, in order to achieve the purpose of alignment.
Curve: Similar to a jump shot, but with a different method of force and hitting angle, and with the addition of spin (deflection).
Corking: Corking is derived from the English word side, which means edge. It is commonly referred to as hitting the white ball on the side of the cue ball.
Billiard Stance
1. For a right-handed player, take the right foot as the center of gravity, with the knee locked, the right foot naturally forward, and the left foot forward roughly one and a half feet away. When bending down to aim at the ball, the left knee is naturally bent.
2, elbow joint naturally raised, the big arm slightly force control the whole arm bending, with the club, small arm three lines in the same vertical plane. The small arm naturally hangs down, the fingers of the club hand naturally hold the club, and there is no gap between the club and the tiger’s mouth. Do not hold the cue too tightly or too loosely.
3, leaning down, the pool cue should be located directly under the chin, the distance control in about 5-10cm.
The bridge is formed by placing the palm of the hand firmly on the table, with the fingers as far apart as possible. The second joints of the index finger and thumb are tightly pressed together and the fingers are taut, making the hand bridge firm enough so that the club will not wobble when the club is carried on the hand bridge. The circle position involves bending the index finger and pressing the thumb against the thumb so that the club passes between the two fingers and rests on the third joint of the middle finger. The hand bridge is generally controlled about 15-20cm.
Grip position
First of all to find the center of gravity of the club, the method is to use the thumb and forefinger of the hand to pinch together, make a circle or a hook, put the club inside the circle, and then push the club left and right to adjust until the balance until the center of gravity of the club is the position of the fingers on the club. Then from this center of gravity to the end of the club to move 20 to 30 centimeters, this part of the general grip is the appropriate position of the club in the event of special playing needs, you can also move back and forth to adjust the grip position.
