I’ve talked about many sports and leisure programs, but today I’ll talk about a competitive sport that originated in Europe around the 14th and 15th centuries – billiards. Billiards, also known as pool. When you first learn how to play billiards, you’ll think it’s an art. Playing pool is not as simple as just getting the ball in the pocket, there are many rules, strategies and terminology to learn. Once you are able to use it proficiently, you will forget all these rules and regulations and just have fun with it. Now let’s read below to learn the various skills of pool!
1、Familiarize yourself with the pool equipment
The complete pool equipment requires the use of three main tools: cue, table and pool balls, which are easy to guess. Choose a cue of the right length, generally speaking most pool cues are 147 centimeters long, there are also slightly shorter or slightly longer. The head is the most important part of the cue, hitting the head thinner than the tail. The head comes in different hardnesses, and beginners should use a moderately hard head.
In the pool table around each side of a bag (two at the end of the ball point is called the top bag, two at the end of the penalty area is called the bottom bag); in addition, in the center of the two long sides of the table each has a pocket (called the middle bag). The width of the pocket should be in accordance with the norms established by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Federation (nearest distance 85.0mm).
2、Learn the terminology
To learn to play pool, you need to understand the terminology and rules. By familiarizing yourself with the lingo, you can learn faster and easier. First, there is the “tee shot”. In an eight-ball game, the player starts by hitting 15 balls. This first shot can either be a straight shot to the mother ball or an angled shot.
3, clear rules
Among the clear rules, we mainly talk about the rules of the national standard eight ball. Clarifying the rules is the biggest prerequisite for winning. When swinging the ball, use the triangular frame to hold the 15 balls except the white ball. Different people prefer different ways of swinging the balls, but the black 8 ball must be placed in the center.
4. Learning the Grip
Different people prefer different grips. If you are right-handed, grip the back of the club with your right hand and rest the front of the club on your left hand. If you are left-handed, do the opposite. The correct gesture is to bend the index finger over the club and place the thumb under the club. This basic gesture controls and stabilizes the club. Others prefer to place the index finger under the club, or the club between the fingers for a more fancy gesture. You can experiment with different grips to see which one works for you.
