Playing billiards friends know that in order to prevent the skin head of the cue and the ball between the phenomenon of slippage, you need to apply a layer of astringent powder like chalk on the head, to increase the friction between the head and the ball, in order to prevent slippage. The principle of applying chalk is that the moment the head meets the ball, there will be no slippage. If you apply a very thick layer of chalk, the moment the head meets the ball, there will be some viscous effect, and the ball will not be very crisp or the suspension of the ball will not be very strong, that’s why when you apply a lot of chalk, there will be a different effect! Utilizing it well is the key!
Classification of Chalk Powder
Oil cochineal: The common blue cochineal is generally oil cochineal, also known as wet cochineal. The powder is easy to stick to the leather head, and also easy to stick to the mother ball, so the professional game generally do not use the oil coquettish.
Dry: The common green coquettes are usually dry coquettes, the dry powder is quite fine, and the adhesion is not as good as the oil coquettes.
When playing, all players know to apply cochineal powder to the leather head from time to time, however, quite a few of them apply it in an improper way, especially the players in the billiard hall. When applying the chalk powder, most of them aim the pit of the chalk powder block at the head, press the head hard and rotate it from side to side, so that a thick layer of chalk powder hangs on the head, and even the powder falls off. In this way, when the leather head hits the main ball, the surface of the main ball obviously leaves a powder mark. And more serious consequences, is when the coke powder block in the middle of the drill into a deep hole, and then use the above method of coating coke powder, a long time, the club immediately below the copper hoop of a small section (about 7 millimeters or so) the rod body was coke powder block grinding into a “thin neck” — the club wear! In some cases, the front end of a significant number of clubs has been stained with the color of the chalk due to improper application of the chalk. Therefore, it is necessary to correct this method of applying chalk.
The shape of the chalk also determines the fate of your clubs.
Chalk is corrosive and clubs are wood products. Incorrect use of chalk can often result in serious consequences such as a broken club head. Even after repair, your clubs will always be “half a head” shorter than others.
The correct way to use the chalk is to gently scrape the chalk along the diagonal of the chalk, so that the chalk covers the entire leather head as evenly as possible, and does not stick to the brass hoop and the front branch, thus avoiding corrosion of the club head.
The wrong way to use the hole-punching type of rubbing cochineal powder, exclusive to billiard rookies, will make the cochineal powder coverage of uneven thickness; cochineal powder on the edge of the cochineal is easy to come into contact with the copper hoop and the wooden part of the head, which will corrode the head for a long time, and even the head part of the rod will break.
When I told the golfers around me about the method of applying chalk powder, some of them were surprised to find that their club heads were already worn out (the so-called grinding into a fine neck). The correct way to apply chalk is to apply a full, even, thin layer to the head. The specific method is as follows: one hand’s thumb and forefinger pinch about 30 mm under the head, the other hand take the chalk powder to the top of the head, from the chest to the direction of the outward direction of the coated chalk powder, and slowly rotate the club until the head is evenly coated with chalk powder. Don’t apply too much chalk, but apply it regularly, almost every two or three times you hit the ball, you need to apply chalk. Chalk powder coated too much is not beneficial, not only a waste of chalk powder and waste of time, the main thing is to contaminate the ball and the table it, affecting the surface of the table clean. Incorrect “drilling” of chalk can damage the cue in the long run. In the match, applying chalk is also an effective way to control the rhythm of the game, in the tense atmosphere of the game, through the application of chalk powder can also relieve their own nervousness, stabilize the rhythm of each shot, and from a side to give the opponent a heart attack.
